Fear, Sales & Woodshedding
You know why there's no posts in this thread? Nobody knows anything about being an artist AND making money.
I said it. Anybody that has the patience to create anything worth looking at - let alone worth buying - doesn't have the time to deal with the business of selling art. I'm going to make a generalization: The problem artists have is that they feel that if their work isn't good enough to sell by itself then the artwork isn't good enough to buy. Therefore, the art shouldn't be for sale. Which also implies that maybe you aren't a good artist. Which is a load of shiite. So here's something for you to chew on whilst ye ruminate about making art: Your art is good. There are people who want to buy it. Figure out what you need to live on, focus on getting that amount of money and continue to produce work. In the next five years, you'll figure it out. Get rid of the things that get in your way. Woodshed. John Coltrane did it. Einstein did it. Everyone that has ever been worth remembering got the fizzle up outta dodge, went and did their thing and came back with six shooters in hand and proceeded to blast the metaphoric hell up out of their place and time. I'm talkin' about nerding-the-f*ck-out and disappearing until you got something fresh. By the way, it only takes a lifetime to become great. It only takes absolute sacrifice to be memorable. |

great points jessebee, I think artists need agents the way actors do to help with this kind of stuff.
